Udemy is signaling a decisive strategic shift, underpinned by a suite of new AI-powered products and key partnerships unveiled at its recent Front-Row event. The online learning platform's latest initiatives are designed to bolster its subscription revenue model and solidify its standing in the competitive digital education market.
The strategic direction appears to be gaining traction with investors. Udemy shares advanced by 3.22 percent on Thursday, closing at $5.61. This positive movement was bolstered by investment bank KeyBanc, which reaffirmed an "Overweight" rating on the stock alongside a $9.00 price target. Following discussions with company management, the bank's analysts expressed increased confidence in an imminent reacceleration of growth.
This optimism is built upon a foundation of solid operational performance. For the third quarter of 2025, Udemy reported earnings per share of $0.13, surpassing the consensus estimate of $0.09. Revenue reached $196 million, also exceeding expectations of $193.14 million. The company's consolidated subscription business, which now constitutes 74 percent of total revenue, grew by eight percent year-over-year.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Udemy?
Expanding the AI Toolset for Educators
Central to the company's announcements were new subscription offerings for course instructors. These models empower educators to host live sessions, create short-form content, and leverage community features directly within the Udemy ecosystem. The goal is to facilitate recurring income for creators while deepening learner engagement. Furthermore, Udemy previewed upcoming AI-assisted authoring tools capable of transforming traditional lengthy courses into interactive micro-learning modules. To fuel this innovation, a newly established $2.5 million fund will provide direct support to instructors developing content in these new formats.
Forging Key Collaborative Ventures
The product launches follow two significant partnership agreements. On Thursday, Udemy disclosed a collaboration with Workera, a platform specializing in AI-driven skill validation. Together, they aim to deliver a data-centric solution for enterprises to assess employee capabilities and identify critical skills gaps. Prior to this, Udemy had already announced a joint effort with the Mila AI research institute. Starting in January 2026, the partnership will focus on developing training programs for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
The company's intensified focus on AI and recurring revenue streams is timely. According to the World Economic Forum, approximately 60 percent of the global workforce will require reskilling due to technological disruption. The next major test for Udemy's refreshed strategy will be its quarterly earnings report, scheduled for release on February 12, 2026. The current average analyst price target for Udemy stock stands at $9.63.
