Leadership Shift at Ethereum Foundation as Glamsterdam Upgrade Looms
14.02.2026 - 03:50:25The Ethereum Foundation is poised for another top-level transition, as co-CEO Tomasz Sta?czak will step down at the end of February 2026 after a tenure of less than a year. He will be succeeded by Bastian Aue, with Hsiao-Wei Wang continuing in his role alongside the new co-leader.
Sta?czak joined the leadership team in 2025 together with Hsiao-Wei Wang. In a Friday blog post, he explained his departure by noting that many of the benchmarks set for the Foundation have either been reached or are well on track.
During his interim period, the Foundation rolled out several structural changes:
- A new security program
- An updated treasury policy
- An in-house artificial intelligence team
Sta?czak intends to remain involved with the Ethereum ecosystem as a core developer. Going forward, Hsiao-Wei Wang will share the Foundation?s leadership duties with Bastian Aue.
Glamsterdam: a technical focus as leadership changes
The leadership transition arrives at a pivotal moment, as developers press ahead with the next major upgrade, dubbed ?Glamsterdam,? slated for the first half of 2026. Unlike prior upgrades, Glamsterdam emphasizes strengthening the protocol?s foundations rather than introducing new features.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ethereum?
Central to this effort is the Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS). The mechanism is designed to boost censorship resistance and to bring greater transparency to the validation process. The plan affects how transactions are ordered and how blocks are constructed?a granular change with wide-ranging implications for the network?s fairness.
Market mood: cautious optimism amid a mixed backdrop
Ethereum recently reclaimed the $2,000 level after a period of pressure. Technical progress is meeting a divided sentiment among institutional players. Standard Chartered lowered its near-term forecast, pointing to softer demand from investors. In contrast, BlackRock increased its position within a large Digital Asset Treasury company that holds Ethereum primarily.
In the near term, the leadership change at the Foundation is not expected to move prices substantially. The more decisive factors will likely be whether Glamsterdam can be delivered on schedule and whether institutional confidence can be restored.
